Environmental Commitment

Since 2003, Custom Transit's Shared-Ride Airport Shuttle has been offering Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti an environmentally-friendly way to get to-and-from Detroit Metro Airport. Our Shared-Ride Airport Shuttle uses a superior dispatching methodology which produces superior service. Our Shared-Ride Shuttle has provided the following savings (compared to taking a taxi or being driven to the airport):
  • Reduced fuel consumption, conservatively (no pun intended), by over 250,000 gallons.
  • Reduced CO2 emissions by over 4,850,000 pounds, using the EPA's estimate of 19.4 lbs of CO2 per gallon of gas burned.
  • Removed over 125,000 vehicle-trips from the I-94 corridor between Ann Arbor and Detroit Metro Airport.
We have a continuing commitment to reduce emissions and our dependance on foreign oil, without impairing our service standards or our ability to accommodate our customer's luggage.
  • In July 2009, we purchased 5 new 2010 Ford E350 Flexfuel vans.
  • In June 2010, we purchased 3 new 2010 Chevrolet Express 3500 Flexfuel vans.
  • As of June 2010, all of our large vehicles are Flexfuel vans, capable of running on both standard gasoline and U.S.-produced E85 (Ethanol).
  • Custom Transit continues to work with partners to find additional logistically efficient E85 refueling stations.
